Every once in a while, Merida is able to step away from her duties as a princess and ride out into the countryside. There, she can be the person she wants to be, rather than act the way that everyone else expects. She is able to become a more skilled archer and rider, and – potentially – use those abilities to change her fate.
The original scene is not scored, but rather set to a song. I decided to create a piece that combined the freedom and energy of Celtic music with the expression and power of a cinematic orchestra.
